Meyer Lemon Update

My Meyer lemon tree seems to be doing a lot better since re-potting it earlier this month. Majority of the leaves have returned to their proper green color, and since spraying a few times where needed with paraffin oil, I only saw a minimal amount of aphids today.
I never seem to be able to put a plant in the middle of a pot. Let's just say it's my artistic side trying to work it's way into the garden (HA! I totally lack an artistic side). I think I need to redo my supports... Any suggestions?
I spent a few minutes attending the blooms with a paintbrush...
And a few more removing extra suckers. Look at how many more blooms there are waiting to burst forth! This is just one branch!

  1. I love Meyer lemons, and their blossoms are so fragrant. With your blooms, you should have some nice fruit in fall. Providing support in a pot can be challenging, as the supports themselves tend to wobble. You could try staking the tree on two sides. Otherwise the trick might be to get the support as close in toward the trunk as possible. I really like the velcro tape as ties, as you can adjust it easily as the trunk girth increases.

  2. I was completely stunned to find that my potted citrus needed so much more water than I thought possible. Even now that they're in the ground, tons and tons of water makes them very happy. And regular fertilizing, and you'd have to do more in a pot because of leaching.
The Meyers are so nice, and so cheerful. Good luck with Mr. Lemon Tree.

  3. You are not alone. I have to reset the plant in a pot a few times before I get it in the center.

  4. Curbstone~ Oh, the Meyer fragrance is almost intoxicating *sigh*. Thanks for the suggestions on supporting my tree. I think I'll have some time this weekend to shift the trunk into the middle of the pot and re-support it.

  5. Stefannener~I've started keeping track of my watering, but I have a feeling it'll be everyday once it starts getting hot--even though I'll move it to spot that gets afternoon shade. I need to figure out how often to fertilize. I've seen some people use a diluted fertilizer at every watering. Maybe because of the leaching? More research to add to the list...
