I'm starting to see red about not seeing red...
I wonder how many more tomatoes my Viva Italia can squeeze out without having any of them turn red. Is this because it's a determinate tomato?
The second largest tomato is 2.5 inches long. I couldn't get into the middle of the plant to measure the larger (and first) tomato.
It's an absolute jungle in there, and all three tomato plants are fighting for space. The Viva, which is in the middle front, has managed to sprawl out and is climbing up against the window behind it. Perhaps I should've done more pruning of suckers?
The two Pearson's that were planted to the left and right behind the Viva Italia are finally starting to push out their fruits.
Finally, all three Tumbling Tom's have pea to cherry sized fruits on them. The plants themselves are looking pretty scraggly, but I'm sure it won't take long for them to fill in...

I know the feeling!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is how I am feeling about my Polish Heirlooms... they look to be approaching the 2 lb mark and still green - I'm afraid they will explode if we get a rainstorm!
ReplyDeleteOh I so can't wait for mine, but I'm expecting to wait a lot longer. I do see little tomatoes on most of my plants now. At least that is something.
ReplyDeleteI posted a few of our tomato varieties yesterday. Don't feel bad...we're not seeing any red here yet either. Of course the return of our 'June Gloom' fog isn't going to hurry things along either. Let's hope it's true that good things come to those who wait!
ReplyDeleteWe're getting small tomatoes daily, but since I'm not much of a tomato eater, I'm giving most away. I think next year I'll only put in two or three plants.
ReplyDeleteOh boy are you going to be inundated . . . be careful what you wish for!
ReplyDeleteHa! It looks like you're growing eggs! Are you sure it's a tomato, and not an egg-plant?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, you won the prize on my blog. http://annieskitchengarden.blogspot.com/2010/06/june-29-2010-and-winner-ismommas.html
Oh those tomatoes look really good. Soon you will have so many ripe at once that you won't remember this anticipation.
ReplyDeleteNone of my tomatoes have turned red yet, but my plants are still fairly small. Hopefully your color is just around the corner!
ReplyDeletep.s. thanks for following my blog. I'm about to start on yours!
Tell me about it! I've been looking at these things for weeks, now....
ReplyDeleteMy Matina early ripers are turning red after being that size for two-three weeks. You think it's about time. It seems as if the brandywines are not far behind since, like Erin's, they are bursting in size. Can they get any bigger?
ReplyDeleteBe patient. it will happen.
